    • (Research):«u»1850 Census«/u» Tried Jacob Richison & Richeson & Rich*son, born Ohio, 1817 +-5 yrs, but no luck. Tried Elizabeth & Lizzie but no luck.

      INGenWeb site for Jay Co. has a reading of the Bloomfield Cemetery when Jacob and Elizabeth are buried. His tombstone has his age at death and the INGenWeb reading says 77 y 11m 17 d which would calculate to a birthdate of 4 Dec 1795. This seems unlikely, but not impossible, since his wife was born around 1818.

      In viewing photos of the tombstone that I have taken myself and some that were taken by others, it appears to me that his age at death was 57 years -- not 77. The months appear to me to be only 1 month rather than 11 and the days are totally unreadable in any of the photos. Using all the combinations with 57 years, his birthdate appears to be sometime between 4 Dec 1815 and 21 Oct 1816. This is more in line with his wife's age and with the age given in the 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1860 censuses for what appears to be Jacob.

      Jacob Richison and Elizabeth Otewalt were Married Dec. 13th 1843, by J. McDowell.
      Returned and Recorded July 18th 1843. Jas. S. Halsey Clk
      Jacob's name is the margin looks like "Richison" without the second "i" being doted but then the "i" in Elizabeth was dotted either. On the marriage return, again the second "i" is not dotted but appears to be identical to the "i" in Elizabeth.

      In the margin Elizabeth's surname is "Oatewalt" but in the return, it is clearly "Otewalt." This is the first time to see the Oatewalt spelling.
