    Letter from Frank Vaughn Richison 
    • . . . I called my borther Charles last Monday evening and he told me that he is having all kinds of medical problems, such as enemia, terrible biochemistry test results and is to see a neprologist, (kidney specialist usually seen when there is a severe kidney problem. It does not bode well for him. If he goes, I will be the only surviving sibling. Well that's the way it is.

    Letter from Frank Vaughn Richison 
    • Your Uncle Charles is in a very critcal condition in a hospital in Jacksonville Florida. I am enclosing a copy of the letter that I got from his wife, Mildred, which does not bode well for him. With only 20-30% kidney function remaining plus the severe heart condition coupled with the anemia it is hard to over come these kind of complications, and survive. The holes referred to in the letter from Mildred is caused by a hereditary condition called pol-systic kidney disease and is almost irreversible even without the other conditions involved. So it doesn't look good at all.

      7/3/89

      Dear Frankie,

      Wanted to let you know that your brother is in serious condition. He's been for weeks very weak & feet & legs swollen & when he'd lay down it would go up around his heart & he'd have to get up into a chair. Last Fri. A.M. about 10:15 he had shaved then rested & was trying to dress and something hit him in the upper arm-right one-then it went down rest of arm and he suffered almost unbearable pain. I called his specialist & they sent me to emergency - took a couple hrs about for that nurse to finally find out what I was to do-so it was about 1:30 when I got him to emergency & they x-rayed-bl tested etc & specialist came back in & said they had to operate & it wasn't long until he was in surgery. He had a blood clot in shoulder 4 in. long & size of lead pencil-they showed it to Chas. They took a bone scan this A.M.-that doesn't seem like what they call it-went into his breast bone for a sample of the bone morrow-no results in yet but they are sure he has bone cancer. His micro value is damaged-he's had at least 2 silent heart attacks-bad heart damage & kidney failure-20-30% normal-anemic and he's still swollen-since he went to hosp. his arms & hands are swollen. He thinks he's to have a kidney biopsy-they think holes in kidney filter. He couldn't keep food down Sat but he is now. He looks better than he did, they have him on blood thinner & something into his heart monitoring the fluid & I don't know what all-he's still in I.C.U. I think they're afraid of more blood clots. Dr. said he's still at risk. When the specialist examined him he shook his head & said he has a lot of complications-but we'll do what we can. So I don't know if he'll ever get home again & if he does how much suffering he will do-if bone cancer, I know he'll suffer. We're just waiting to see what happens. I think 2 more specialists were to come-maybe one took the bone marrow sample. I don't understand it all.

      This is about the best I can tell you of his condition now.
