      John Branham does not seem to be in the 1840 census in Roane Co., TN but he is there in 1829 when he married, in 1830, and from 1850 thru 1870. There is a William Branham which seems to be the most likely candidate with 3 males under age 15 [Elias, Aaron, & ????], and 3 females under age 10 [Emily, Mary Ann, & ???]. There's a male 30 to 40 which would be John and a female 20 to 30 which would be Malinda.

      There is also a William C. Branham in 1840 w/a male and female 20 to 30 and one male under 5. What appears to be the same William C. is in the 1850, age 33 w/a wife age 35 and one son age 11. All the other children are under age 10 so wouldn't have appeared in 1840 listing.

      The William from 1840 could be John, could have moved out of Roane Co. by 1850, or possibly died before 1850.
