    • NOTES:

      This is the likely father of our John WILKERSON. Needs further research to prove. See 237-1880 Fed. Census of George W. WILKINSON , living two doors from John. George has his mother living with him, named Lucy A. Most likely candidate is Lucy Ann PEARSON who md Claiborn WILKERSON in 1834 in Roane Co., TN.



      A Claiborn Wilkerson is listed as having d 21 Nov 1862 in the Ancestry Database: Tennessee Civil War Regimental Histories. This could possibly be John's father as John enlisted in Sept of 1863.

      Page by page search on Ancestry for any of Claiborn's family in Subdivision 9 and 15, Roane Co., Tennessee and Kingston, Tennessee. Geo. and John are both in District 9, Roane Co..



      Tried each of the family given names without a surname in Union and Knox counties but no results. Probably need to do a page by page search of actual microfilm for Knox Co. as that is where he was in 1850 and he enlisted in Confederate Cav. on 27 Jan 1862 at Knoxville.

      5th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (McKenzie's)



      5th Cavalry Regiment was organized in December, 1862, using the 13th Tennessee Cavalry Battalion as its nucleus. The men were from the counties of Polk, Hamilton, Meigs, McMinn, Bradley, Cocke, Hawkins, and Blount. It served in Scott's, Humes', H.B. Davidson's, and H.M. Ashby's Brigade. After skirmishing in Kentucky the unit fought at Chickamauga, McMinnville, Shelbyville, and Philadelphia. Later it was involved in various conflicts in Kentucky, Alabama, and Georgia, then took part in the campaign of the Carolinas. The regiment surrendered with the Army of Tennessee. Its commanders were Colonels George W. McKenzie and John B. McLin, Lieutenant Colonel John G.M. Montgomery, and Major John L. Backwell.

      Conley Family Tree on Ancestry.com gives a first wife, Eunice Wilson (1913-1995) which is so wrong as to be laughable. Eliza J. Wilkerson, b. 1839 is listed as a child of this marriage!
