Honeycreek Cemetery
Pike Township, Clark County, Ohio
On Ayres Road, near Studebaker Road
Submitted by Candy Gilliam, August, 2002
Prepared by Sara Greer, August 2002
The Honeycreek Cemetery is located in Pike Twp. on Ayres Rd, near Studebaker Rd. It is enclosed by a fence with a large wrought-iron gate at the entrance, and the name "Honey Creek Cemetery, 1897" over the gate. The Honeycreek Cemetery used to be known as the Christian Church Graveyard. It was organized in 1839 at the home of Elijah Priest under the direction of Rev J Kirby. The original members were John and Catherine Priest, Andrew & Nancy Clark, Mary Clark, John & Elizabeth Richardson, and L & Sarah Davis. In 1840 a log house was built on the corner of L. Davis' land, and in 1852 a one story frame building was erected at the cost of about $1000. Also in 1852, William Leffel made a donation of one acre of land for the purpose of a burial ground. John Leffel was the first to be buried here on Sept 27, 1852.
The cemetery is no longer in full-time use, although a stillborn infant was buried there last year according the Rev. Joseph Karns. He didn't have the data on this burial at the time I talked with him 2 weeks ago. Before this infant burial, the last burial was of Elmer Mumford who died January 10, 1951.
The cemetery was read in 2000 by the current pastor, Rev. Joseph Karns. I re-read the cemetery in July, 2002. - Candy Gilliam, August, 2002
